The Sharon Walker School of Education at Morningside College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Special Education to begin August 2021 to provide instruction and support for the special education initial licensure and endorsement programs in the unit.
Teaching primarily undergraduate courses and occasionally some graduate courses, advising undergraduates, assisting with the development of new programs for the unit, providing content oversight for special education curriculum and assessment, and delivering instruction both face-to-face and online.
Ideal candidates should demonstrate the qualities of an effective educator, a commitment to implementing high quality education programs that meet and exceed state standards, and an enthusiastic dedication to teaching undergraduates at a liberal arts college.
Teaching assignments will primarily include an introduction to exceptionalities course for all education majors and for Iowa Strategist I teacher licensure courses including secondary transition, school-parent collaboration, educational assessment, and methods.
Teaching load is 20 credits per academic year plus a May Term every three years. Candidates must also be willing to contribute to the general education curriculum.
An earned doctorate in special education, curriculum and instruction, education or closely related field, (ABD considered if completion is expected within one year); licensure as a special education teacher of students with mild/moderate disabilities and K-12 special education teaching experience are required.
